Not too snobby to ask for help...

The good news? I just won a book from this blog, BookSnob, for explaining how/why I'm a book snob (and yes, you have to click the link to see my winning post). How cool is that?!?!

I got to pick my prize, so William Zinsser's Writing About Your Life will be showing up in my mailbox someday soon. I can't wait!

So why do I need your help?

I am in a serious reading rut.

For the past few years, it's been young adult literature (which I love). Recently, I've taken a turn toward non-fiction (also good), but I really need some new book ideas.

Want to help a girl out? Comment with your favorite fiction picks, and I will be forever grateful.

That's fantastic. Congrats.

I'm really enjoying 'The Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett :)

Thanks Sonja! =) I'll have to check it out.

Born to Run by Christopher McDougall is in my top 5 books EVER.

Anything by Michael Pollan; specifically: Omnivore's Dilemma, and In Defense of Food

In my opinion, the only really good way to read scientific stuff is through thew eyes (and typewriter) of a journalist. Both McDougall and Pollan are seasoned journalists. Pollan is a professor at UC Berkeley.

For a great fiction read, I really enjoyed The Art of Racing in the Rain by I forget who. It's told from the dog's perspective. Awesome.

Loved your comment about the bestseller list--I agree entirely!! Are you on Goodreads? I just read the Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. It's incredible!!! And, then I already mentioned the Book Thief before. Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust. Jane Eyre is one of my favorites of all time! (Then watch the movie from BBC--I think it's BBC). Have you read the Uglies series? It's really good! Life of Pi is a little disturbing. Good luck. And, post when you read something so I know to read it too!!!

Abby, I haven't read it but my husband is reading "This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper. He is driving me crazy because he is cracking up constantly as he reads next to me. Maybe check that one out!

I'm reading the Vagrants--which I think will be a tough but good read!

Hey Mike! Thanks for the ideas - I'm actually partway through "The Omnivore's Dilemma." I find it fascinating and frightening. I'll have to see about the other books you recommended, especially the one from the dog's p.o.v.

Christina -I'm on Good Reads, but I need to do a little bit of updating. You know, I used to mail out "Left to Tell" when I worked at the PBS/NPR station. It was one of the thank you gifts for a pledge program. I probably should've read one of those copies. ;) I'll add yours to the list, too.

Katy - Thanks for the ideas(and I got my book today-thanks for that, too). I'll have to see about the book your husband is reading, sounds like my kind of book.

I was reading about the "The Vagrants" (because I am all about an online book club). Is it as dark and intense as it sounds? I may have to catch you guys on the next book, but I'll be watching for your review.

I did find "Let the Great World Spin" at our little library today, so it's in the stack to read next.
